The Winter Feast For The Soul takes place every year January 15th - February 23rd and unites people in their commitment to a 40 day practice of stillness.

After the Feast is over, we encourage you to continue your practice. Our resources are available year round to help you. For any newcomers, here are some steps we suggest you follow if you want to begin a 40 day journey of your own.

1. Watch our introductory video here

2. Read About our Vision and Goals.

3. Enjoy the video of the Candle Lighting Ceremony on YouTube.

4. Review the variety of meditations we offer and select one (or two) teachers who you would like to follow for your Feast. There are links to each daily meditation, and the daily meditations can be downloaded for your use. We recommend that you listen to the teacher's introduction before you begin, and then start with the first recording of the series you have chosen. Many new meditations will be added during the upcoming 2014 Winter Feast starting on January 15, 2014.The links on that page take you to where the 40 daily meditations can be downloaded for your use.

6. Get involved by becoming a local Winter Feast coordinator.

To support individuals in experiencing the benefits of establishing a daily spiritual practice.

To create a global community of individuals committed to sustaining a daily spiritual practice for 40 days from January 15 to February 23 each year.

To honor all forms of spiritual practice and to make them welcome to our Winter Feast for the Soul. These include meditation, yoga, tai chi, chi gong, journaling, reading spiritual texts from all traditions and philosophies.

To provide motivation and to coordinate the activities of the Winter Feast for the Soul, by engaging new friends and old in preparing for and sustaining their commitmement to their daily spiritual practice.

To engage a faculty of spiritual guides and teachers from a variety of traditions to support our participants in sustaining their daily spiritual practice.

We hold a vision of a world at peace that surpasses the imagined boundaries of creed, culture, and philosophical beliefs.

We embrace all spiritual traditions and organizations in a synchronized period of practice where we become part of a shared dream for a consciousness of oneness and peace on our planet.

We embrace all forms of practice that bring an individual to a period of stillness in their daily life. The commitment to 40 minutes of practice each day for the 40-day period of the Feast allows people to have a life changing experience of the importance of stillness. In that space, the promptings of the Inner Divine are found and loving kindness and compassion flow naturally into daily life.

These include

  • Meditation
  • Prayer
  • Yoga
  • Martial arts
  • Journaling
  • Expressive arts
  • Daily acts of kindness toward self and others

Acts of Kindness toward self and others flow effortless when one has a daily spiritual practice. In 2011 we added a commitment to Daily Acts of Kindness to our list of spiritual practices. In this world of dramatic change, it is important to emphasize our role in the cosmic dance and commit to the outer expression of our practice.

The number 40 has great historical significance in the lives of important spiritual teachers. Forty is the number of change. If we truly want to make a difference in the world, then we must begin by inviting change into our own lives. The three line poem by 13th century mystic, Jelaluddin Rumi, that inspired this Feast tells us that 40 days of early morning practice will have a remarkable effect on our lives.

A new moon teaches gradualness
and deliberation, and how one gives birth
to oneself slowly. Patience with small details
makes perfect a large work, like the universe.
What nine months of attention does for an embryo
forty early mornings alone will do
for your gradually growing wholeness.

~ Jelaluddin Rumi

Consider Moses, Elijah, Buddha, Jesus and Mohamed. They all left their ordinary lives for 40 days to connect with the Indwelling Spirit.

Forty minutes of practice can be divided into two sessions of 20 minutes each to reach the 40 minutes of commitment. It can also be divided into four 10-minute segments where we experience the stillness more often, and thus integrate it into our day in another way. Each person can design their practice so that it meets their personal schedule and lifestyle.

2014 marks the seventh year of the Winter Feast for the Soul. Lets make this Feast the most powerful Feast ever. May all beings find peace and may kindness and compassion rule all our relationships.
