Winter Feast for the Soul Description – short

The Winter Feast for the Soul is an annual spiritual practice period that begins every January 15. During the Feast, thousands of people worldwide recommit to their spiritual practice every day for 40 days to cultivate personal peace. Peace on earth can only arise from peace in one’s heart. The Feast was inspired by the words of the Persian poet, Jelaluddin Rumi, who wrote, “What nine months does for the embryo, forty early mornings will do for your growing awareness.” The Winter Feast for the Soul is a not-for-profit organization that offers online meditation and practice support via meditation recordings, instruction, and inspiration free of charge on its website. The Feast was inspired by the words of the Persian poet, Jelaluddin Rumi, who wrote, “What nine months does for the embryo, forty early mornings will do for your growing awareness.” This year’s teaching faculty includes leaders in Mindfulness, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Sufism, and yogic and modern interdenominational traditions. There are also meditations offered in Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese.

(SEDONA AZ) Winter Feast for the Soul Meditation Gathering at the Sedona Creative Life Center

The public is invited to participate in a one hour meditation gathering to start the New Year peacefully. On the 15th of January, at the Sedona Creative Life Center, Sarah McLean will be hosting an opening ceremony to mark the first day of the annual 40-day world-wide meditation effort The Winter Feast for the Soul.

Last year over 20,000 people in over 29 different countries participated in this worldwide event as they committed to a personal spiritual practice for 40 minutes a day for 40 days.

The Dalai Lama has endorsed the Winter Feast for and Deepak Chopra has added his endorsement saying, "Meditating forty minutes a day for forty days, as done in the Winter Feast for the Soul wont just further ones conscious evolution, it will have an effect on humanity. Humanity will be at peace when enough individuals choose to make peace a part of their spiritual practice."

All are invited to join the non-denominational opening ceremony of the Winter Feast for the Soul at a one-hour gathering at the Chapel at the Sedona Creative Life Center on Schnebly Hill Road on January 15, at 5:00 pmsponsored by the McLean Meditation Institute. Led by Hay House author and Winter Feast Director, Sarah McLean, attendees will hear inspirational readings and be guided into a silent meditation.

The event is open to the public, though space is limited. No meditation experience is necessary. Attendees must be on time to participate in the group meditation. Admission is by donation. Register at www.McLeanMeditation.com, or call 928-204-0067, or simply arrive to join the meditation.

"Winter Feast is that when people spend a block of time each day focusing inward they will discover there a source of inner peace. That peace, if shared by enough people will spread around the world," says Winter Feast founder, Valerie Skonie, of Hailey Idaho, who recently visited Sedona. She said that the initial inspiration for the Winter Feast came when she read a three-line poem by a 13th Century mystic Jelaluddin Rumi:

What nine months does for the embryo,
Forty early mornings
Will do for your growing awareness.

That’s when she decided to make something happen. Spiritual practice can be defined as prayer, meditation, reading sacred texts, yoga, martial arts, and expressive arts. ’We even had a woman who committed to singing for forty minutes a day last year,’ reports Skonie.

Consider the stories of Noah, Elijah, Moses, Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed. Each spent forty days in retreat or contemplation. When these prophets returned from their inner journey, they had changed, and, in turn, their world had changed. ’Now it is our turn to participate in this shift and not to look to our spiritual leaders to do it for us,’ says Skonie. GLOBAL PEACE INITIATIVE COMES TO (YOUR TOWN HERE) WITH WINTER FEAST FOR THE SOUL

(INSERT LOCAL EVENT INFORMATION HERE)

This event is being planned in conjunction with the Winter Feast for the Soul.

Beginning on January 15, the annual Winter Feast for the Soul begins. Now in its 10th year, the Feast is a time when people worldwide have committed to their personal spiritual practice in hopes of discovering an inner landscape of peace. The idea is that if inner peace is experienced by enough people, it can’t help by be felt around the world.

The Winter Feast for the Soul runs from January 15- February 23 and is a worldwide 40-day period of spiritual practice. It features a faculty of teachers from many religious traditions who offer free online guided meditations to assist people in developing their own spiritual practice.

Last year over 20,000 people in at least 29 different countries participated in this free worldwide event.

The Dalai Lama has endorsed the Winter Feast for years now, and Deepak Chopra says about the event: “Meditating 40 minutes a day for 40 days, as done in the Winter Feast for the Soul won’t just further one’s conscious evolution. Humanity will be at peace when enough individuals choose to make peace a part of their spiritual practice.”

The initial inspiration for the Winter Feast for the Soul came from a poem by the renowned 13th Century mystic Jelaluddin Rumi, better known as Rumi.

What nine months does for the embryo,
Forty early mornings
Will do for your growing awareness.

When you consider the personal stories of important religious figures including Noah, Elijah, Moses, Jesus, Buddha, and Mohammed, you’ll recognize that each one spent 40 days in retreat or contemplation. When these prophets returned from their inner journey, they had changed, and, in turn, their world had changed. Spiritual practice can be defined as prayer, meditation, reading sacred texts, yoga, martial arts, and even expressive arts.

Given the challenges and struggles we see taking place in the world today, this event enables people to commit to the life changing practice of peace through stillness and meditation.
